Burghound Symposium

We are thrilled to be able to now launch our Burghound Symposium 2020 programme. This intense, but varied collection of masterclasses and dinner events, combines fun with the chance to gain or to deepen your understanding of Burgundy. We are flying leading Burgundy critic and writer Allen Meadows (and “Mrs. Burghound" too!) to Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai to lead events in this programme.

Allen Meadow’s 2020 China programme is exclusive to The Fine Wine Experience.

There is much to learn about this complex yet rewarding fine wine region of Burgundy. Allen’s expertise, his complete fluency in the subject, and his ability to teach, to lead, and to moderate discussion offer much to both the novice and the experienced aficionado.

We have also spent many months meticulously sourcing just the right bottles – the right vineyards, vintages, and domaines with the right provenance – to show top level Burgundy in its diversity and depth.

Hedonism and learning combined! 

The programme takes in a range of subjects with a nicely varied selection of cuisines at leading dining venues in three cities. Yet all this is scheduled within a short enough space of time, that both locals and international guests alike can schedule any selection of events, or indeed the entire programme into their diaries.

2020 BURGHOUND SYMPOSIUM HONG KONG: Domaine Emmanuel Rouget - Echézeaux, Cros Parantoux & Les Beaumonts

In the village of Flagey-Echezeaux lies the outstanding Domaine Emmanuel Rouget. It’s one where the legendary and revolutionary winemaking figure in Burgundy, Henri Jayer, left a great mark. Emmanuel Rouget is Henri Jayer’s nephew, and Henri served as a mentor to Emmanuel as he learned winemaking and worked for Jayer beginning in the 1970s. These skills and family traditions of winemaking have since been passed down to Guillaume Rouget, one of Emmanuel’s sons, who together with his brother Nicolas are leading the domaine now. They are farming the land and making wine from the same plots Jayer did.

Wines from Domaine Emmanuel Rouget started being produced in the mid-1980s, and all of the Jayer family-owned vineyards were leased to Emmanuel Rouget upon Jayer’s retirement in 1996. Then, since 2002, all of the Jayer-owned portion of Cros Parantoux was made by Rouget (0.715ha of the 1.01ha total). We are honoured to have Guillaume join us for this dinner that will take you on a tour of three of the finest examples of his wines – Echezeaux, Cros Parantoux and Les Beaumonts from four contrasting vintages – 1993, 2002, 2009 and 2016. This dinner will also offer the opportunity to experience the winemaking evolution at this domaine as the generations shift from Emmanuel Rouget to his sons, Guillaume and Nicolas.
