Unlike some of the smaller and more homogenous grand cru appellations, Echezeaux is quite
large, at 36ha, and takes in fully 11 different climats. There is nuance to discover here, as we go
deep into this vineyard.
But more than that, this evening, we are doing so with examples from what might as well form a
bucket list of some of the most iconic producers and wines in recent Burgundy history. Yes, Henri
Jayer is included, from the great 1999 vintage, no less. So too is Bizot, DRC, Comte Liger-Belair,
Rouget, Dujac, Mugneret-Gibourg… indeed, the collection we shall enjoy over dinner this evening,
guided by the expert on the subject, Allen Meadows, aka Burghound, is a who’s who of some of
the greatest names in Burgundy. Even old rarities from Leroy and René Engel are included. If you
love the finest in Burgundy, and are also curious to get to know Echezeaux that much better, don’t
miss this small-scale Echezeaux Icons dinner.
