For white Burgundy lovers like me, especially those who like Meursault, there are likely one of two names that come to mind when you ask for their favourite – Domaine Coche-Dury or Domaine Roulot. I’ve been very fortunate in that I learned about both from likely some of their biggest followers. Devotees of these domaines have shared cherished bottles with me over the years. Since moving to Hong Kong almost two years ago now, I’ve discovered a strong following for these white wine gems in Kuala Lumpur. Please come join me in Kuala Lumpur on 12 December for dinner with some of my fellow Coche-Dury and Roulot loving fans accompanied by the thoughtful and carefully paired culinary creations of Chef Darren Chin at DC Restaurant.
We will spend the evening comparing and contrasting the styles of these two top domaines in Meursault and seeing how the wines have evolved over the years beginning with the 1988 vintage (a year before Jean-Marc took over) and ending in 2012 (Raphaël took over from his father Jean-François after his retirement in 2010). Both winemakers at these domaines, Jean-François Coche and now Raphaël and Jean-Marc Roulot, focus time on their land and vines as they believe wine of distinction is made in the vineyard.
Several of you joined Linden, Mike and Allen and Erica Meadows for our Domaine Coche-Dury dinner in Shanghai as part of our Burghound Symposium back in April. In December we’d like to delve deeper into this topic and add in the wines of Domaine Roulot for comparison. We hope to see you in KL in December for a very special evening devoted to two stellar producers from Meursault. The list of wines for the evening are the following:
