Meursault is a rather large appellation in Côte de Beaune with 314 hectares of AOC vineyards. With excellent terroir conditions and climat diversity, the region has become the most revered area in Burgundy for Chardonnay because of its unique charactertistics. This famous name has 19 premier crus, and perhaps surprisingly, no grand cru. However, the charm of Meursault is not limited to its premier crus as some of the east-facing Meursault AOC vineyards share the same altitude with its neighboring Puligny-Montrachet’s grand cru vineyards.

The elite 1er Crus like Les Perrières, Les Genevrières and Les Gouttes d’Or need no further emphasis here; they are in a league of their own. Many Meursault producers are also showcasing the special qualities of the lieux-dits. It’s always an enlightening revelation when we discover a lieu-dit that is as profound as a premier cru. Meursault’s terroir amazes us with its charismatic and fascinating complexity.
