Ah, Burgundy. We love it. The wines, the people, the place. Have you been? Do you want to really understand it?
Join us next month for a very special trip, to really soak it up, to understand it in a way that just isn’t possible without very privileged access. That’s exactly what we have arranged.
Due to a great surge in interest in Burgundy, all but the largest negocient houses have closed their doors to visitors. This is not Bordeaux, where large quantities of each wine are made, and there are staff assigned to handle visitors. The best Burgundy producers are often small family-run operations, where the person you would see to taste is also the farmer, the winemaker, the exporter… They don’t have time, and with so many small crops recently and with demand higher than ever, increasingly they don’t have wine to show either.
But we have arranged some very special Burgundy domaine visits, so you will learn first hand from these artisans in their cellars.
We have also arranged the best access of all, in our view – the Wasserman family. They live in Burgundy and have led the way in finding and exporting domaine wines to the USA and elsewhere. They know the region intimately, and have been teaching on the subject in their Burgundy home for many years too. With the Wassermans you will taste, you will attend classes, and you will walk the vineyards discussing geology, soil, micro-climate and viticulture, while tasting the wines of the vineyard. You will hear from experts, such as geologist, Françoise Vannier. You will dine with the Wassermans in fine restaurants and in their home and with leading growers who will join to eat, drink and chat with you.
All of this is carefully woven into something that will be a very special Burgundy fine wine experience indeed.
The group will be kept very small and intimate to maximise your chance to engage directly, and again, to ensure access. This simply isn’t possible with a large group.
Finally, the timing of this trip is no accident. We have coincided this with the great annual Burgundy festival – Musique et Vin – you will begin the visit by hearing Yo-Yo Ma play in the medieval Chateau de Clos Vougeot. Those sought-after seats are included.
If you love wine and travel, and really want to deepen your understanding of Burgundy, this is your best chance.
