And then at the end of the month, on 23rd July, let’s indulge in Champagne from 1995 with a retrospective discussion of this vintage at Howard’s Gourmet. With the release of the 1996s, the 1995s seemed to get overshadowed. However, now with 25 years on, we’ve found them showing well, and in some cases, at least at this stage, delivering more than the 1996 vintage. The year 1995 experienced warmer temperatures, so there is more richness and generosity in these. As Michael Edwards described in his ‘Champagne Vintage Guide’ article for Decanter, it marked the first strong Champagne vintage since 1990 and is considered especially good for Chardonnay. We will taste a range from Blanc de Blancs to Blanc de Noirs to Rosé to single-vineyard expressions to Recently Disgorged from the best producers in Champagne and best villages to gain insights on the 1995 vintage and where it stands amongst the heralded years for fine Champagne.
