There was considerable excitement in this Champagne vintage when the first examples began appearing in the market almost 20 years ago. Recognisable for its fine backbone of minerality and acidity, 1996 also seemed like a vintage destined for the long haul. And, 25 years from harvest, we are now at a good stage to really judge that ‘long haul’ potential. We have chosen for you a wide range of styles, all at the top – prestige cuvée – quality level, and covering a range of styles, districts, and blends. With ten wines to savour over the course of the evening we should finish with a good sense of the style and performance of this vintage, as well as each identifying our own personal favourites.
